National anti-war conference comes to Charlottesville, PVCC

News

Fifty years ago, during his farewell address, President Dwight D. Eisenhower warned citizens about the military-industrial complex, the collective of a nation’s armed forces and the industries that supply the military equipment. To commemorate Eisenhower’s speech, a three day conference called MIC at 50 will take place in Charlottesville.

This Friday, Sept. 16, the first day of the conference will be held at The Haven on West Market St. from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and will include such speakers as Charlottesville’s mayor, Dave Norris, David Swanson, an activist and writer, as well as former Department of State official-turned-anti-war activist, Ann Wright. A number of additional speakers will be available to interview prior to 6:30 p.m.

The weekend portion of the conference will be in the V. Earl Dickinson Building at Piedmont Virginia Community College. Saturday, the hours are from 8:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., and on Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
