Fans of short films and mountain sports will have something new to look forward to when Shenandoah National Park Trust brings the “Radical Reels Tour” to the Dickinson Theater on Sept. 15.

“Radical Reels” is an extension of the Banff Mountain Film Festival that was brought to Dickinson last year. “There was such enthusiasm from the audience that we have brought it back again this year,” said Susan Sherman, Executive Director of Shenandoah National Park Trust.

As part of the tour, 10 short films from the 35th Annual Banff Mountain Film Festival will be screened. The films will involve outdoor sports enthusiasts performing various feats, including rock climbing, kayaking, skiing and biking. Raffles will also be held, with prizes from outdoor outfitters like Deuter, Oboz and Blue Ridge Mountain Sports.

The event will feature special guests Jason Andelman and Kelly Holland, both of who are devoted hikers that will set off on a hundred mile hike at Shenandoah National Park with the goal of raising $5000 for the organization over the weekend.

For those interested, tickets for Radical Reels 2011 cost $10 in advance, or $12 at the door, and may be purchased at Plow & Hearth in the Barracks Road Shopping Center, online at snptrust.org or at the box office. The show will start at 7:30 p.m. and all proceeds will go to benefit Shenandoah National Park Trust.
