PVCC’s New Mental Health Professional

Campus News News

Maintaining good mental health is integral to succeeding in college, which is why PVCC has partnered with the Region Ten Community Services Board to ensure students get the help they need. The Region Ten Community Services Board, established 1969, is an accessible Community Service Board that provides mental health services to Charlottesville and surrounding communities. Region Ten also provides support for intellectual disabilities and substance use.

As a part of this partnership, PVCC welcomes a new member to the community: Jnauiree Wilson, M.S. LPC-R. Wilson is a licensed counselor who works as a Child & Family Outpatient Clinician at Region Ten, and will now also be available for PVCC students who need counseling. Wilson’s services are available to all current students at PVCC at no cost.

Wilson is equipped to aid students with therapeutic approaches like Eye Movement Desensitizing  and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), which are treatments that help patients process and recover from trauma. She is also versed in Internal Family Systems (IFS), an approach that aims to heal targeted parts of the mind in order to heal the whole, like a family. Wilson can also help students through motivational interviewing, a technique that draws out inner motivation for positive change.

Wilson is also trained in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) for suicide first-aid intervention and REVIVE! for naloxone usage to prevent opioid overdose. Additionally, Wilson has trained with Side-by-Side LGBTQ+, an LGBTQ+ youth support organization, to ensure an open and welcoming space for LGBTQ+ students.

“Beyond the therapy room, I have been honored to walk alongside our community during times of crisis,” Wilson said. “Offering both on-site and in-office emergency sessions to provide comfort and stability in moments of need.”

Students can receive counseling services both virtually and in-person. Setting up appointments with Wilson is easy: all students need to do is contact her by email at jnauiree.wilson@regionten.org or call her at 434-282-6872. For in-person counseling, Wilson’s PVCC office is located on the second floor of the Bolick Center in the advising department. Her office hours are Mondays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
