Tyler Childers returns to Charlottesville while “On The Road”
After having to cancel his April 13 show because of illness, Tyler Childers delivered his second career performance at John Paul Jones Arena on Sept. 22.
Childers, a Grammy-winning Kentuckian, seemingly addressed the cancellation during the show. While not giving much explanation, Childers apologized for coming back to Charlottesville “…after what? 4 months?” Childers described himself, his band, and his tour crew as a “traveling petri dish.”
Childers’ “On The Road” tour, which began on April 3 of this year, is a must see for both country fans and those who may not be familiar with the genre’s bluegrass and honky-tonk offshoots.
Those in attendance were some of the first to hear live versions of new tracks from Childers’ “Snipe Hunter,” which was released July 25. The band treated the audience with a performance of the viral “Bitin’ List” along with album standouts “Oneida” and “Down Under.”
Childers also utilized a second stage across the floor from the main production, where he and his band mates performed a heartfelt, acoustic section. This change in both energy and location allowed Childers to interact with the audience more intimately and connect with his storytelling talents. Arena lights off, spotlight only on him, this is where Tyler Childers’ magic is truly felt. The crowd was enamored by his renditions of fan favorites “Follow You To Virgie,” “Lady May,” and “Nose On The Grindstone.”
Tyler Childers’ “On The Road” tour continues performances through June 2026.
