Peter Rabbit 2: Runaway brings a childhood classic to life
Free Movie Friday is a place for college students that love the movies without paying for them, and also without snacks and drinks. Free Movie Fridays in the Dickinson theater at PVCC are offered once a month. In October, the movie was Peter Rabbit 2: Runaway, an amazing family adventure and the great expansion of an extraordinary adventure. People might learn a thing or two from a rabbit. Never be fooled on how far hopping can get you even when it means to kick some rascally butt. The first movie, Peter Rabbit, was where it all began for his four sisters, Bea, and himself. Peter Rabbit and his three sisters, Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cotton-tail. They enjoy most of their days in old man Mr. McGregor’s vegetable garden.
Shortly after their fun days with friends in the garden, old Mr. McGregor dies. That is when they thought they had the whole garden to themselves, but they were wrong. Because shortly after, their fun and parties come to a quick halt when one of Mr. McGregor’s relatives, Thomas McGregor, moves in and changes it all. A battle of wills breaks out between man and animal where man takes every single precaution to keep the animals out of the garden, where they once roamed free. In the end, the resourceful rabbit himself finds a way.
The movie Peter Rabbit: Runaway is about Bea, Thomas, and the rabbits have created somewhat of a makeshift family among themselves. Despite his best efforts, Peter is unable to shake off his mischievous reputation. During this time, Bea’s art and book starts taking off and they all head to the big city. This is where Peter starts venturing out of the garden. However, when his family risks everything to come looking for him, Peter must find out what kind of bunny he is to save his family.
My thoughts on this movie is that it is truly full of life. The movie was so easy to feel like a kid again while watching. I Loved seeing the actions that the rabbits went through in the movie, from eating jelly beans and experiencing a sugar high to saving the day. I really enjoyed being able to sit down in a huge theater with space to stretch out in my own space. Wish more people would take the opportunity to come to a free movie on campus. This free movie is a perfect way to unwind after a long stressful day at school.
Overall my experience at the Dickinson theater was good, but I would not give it a full five stars. As I walked in, I saw a couple of people around a desk that seemed not to expect to have any people to show up, even though they had a roll of movie theater tickets on the white table in front of them. As I approached them, they asked about my drink. I later found out that the reason they questioned me is because they were worried about having to clean up a spilled mess. I was also told it is because they do not have enough staff, even though there were four to five people at the table in front.
I did understand because it was rather a large place and not easy to clean. I do wish they had a concession stand, but they do not allow drinks or snacks into the theater. All they allow is bottled water with a screw-top cap on. In all, the experience was quite nice for a free movie. About 20-25 people showed up, but I encourage more students to come to these events. They have a mask policy to wear them at all times while inside the building, like the rest of PVCC’s main campus.
