Madea Loses Nothing in Translation, even on Audible

Arts & Entertainment Opinion Reviews

This review will be on Tyler Perry’s book Don’t Make a Black Woman Take Off Her Earrings.  Tyler Perry talks about why he wrote this book and why he wanted to share it through his character Madea.

Perry says Madea is a combination of women who helped raise him in the neighborhood. Madea is a woman with attitude and wisdom. There were women and aunts who helped raise the neighborhood children with some good old fashioned advice, just like Madea. Perry also gives the real meaning of Madea, but I’ll save that for those who want to listen to the book because there is a story behind the name as well.

The audio book starts off with Perry setting up the story about Madea. Then it gets interesting because Madea proceeds to tell the rest of the story in her same type of word such as heller. She still gets her point across. You can hear her inflections throughout the story which brought a smile to my face.

Madea then goes to describe how she became the person she became. Her mother, Big Mable Murphy, was a strong influence. Madea did not have a choice but to be tough because her mother was tough. Now you know why Madea has an attitude despite her tough upbringing. Madea learned you needed to have a sense of humor to get through the tough times. If anyone would like to hear some old fashion wisdom with attitude, then you may want to listen to this book
