Workforce Services at Piedmont Virginia Community College will hold its first annual “Healthy, Well-thy and Wise” Wellness Fair on Saturday, March 31 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the PVCC Stultz Center. The fair will include presentations and workshops on over nine areas of wellness, including physical, mental, legal and financial wellness. Divided into 50 minute sessions, seminars range from “Gender Differences in Brain Function” to “Home Wellness: Safety and Security Measures” to “Documents You Must Have.”

Lyn van der Sommen, M.D., Workforce Services program manager of healthcare, said, “Charlottesville is so rich in wellness experts; nearly every presentation has at least two speakers. We want to introduce the public to what we can offer in wellness across the board.”

The wellness fair will also feature a presentation on tai chi, qi gong and yoga. Carrie Pledger, research specialist at the University of Virginia Department of Neurological Surgery, will present “The Science of Happiness,” which she will also offer as a Workforce Services class in June.

Vendors include, but are not limited to, Pizza Bella, Bodos Bagels, Bread Works, Whole Foods, Harris Teeter, Giant and Integral Yoga, according to van der Sommen. Registration is open to the public and costs $25 per person or $45 per couple. Lunch will be provided, and participants have the chance to enter a drawing for a $50 Barnes and Noble gift certificate, a blood pressure kit and various gift certificates and coupons from other vendors.

“It’s very exciting, and we’ve already got sponsors for next year. It’s going to be a great resource,” said van der Sommen.
