Art vouchers mean free Dickinson shows for PVCC students

Registered PVCC students with an interest in dance, music, theater or the arts are in luck. Every semester, a pair of student arts voucher is available to all current PVCC students. Although this is a great opportunity for students, some are not aware of the student voucher program.

Mary Jane King and Kay Bethea were highly involved in the development of the student voucher program in the late 1990’s, before the Dickinson building was even opened in early 2000. The program has been available for over ten years now.

According to Bethea, her students are required to retrieve their vouchers and put them to use at least once during the semester. She said “I would love to get more PVCC students to attend performing arts events at PVCC.”

Students that are not involved in classes such as acting, music and arts tend not to know about the program. “It’s so hard to get students who only have classes in the main building over to the Dickinson building,” said Bethea.

There are a few restrictions to the student voucher program, however, and only shows in the main Dickinson theater, not the Black Box, will qualify. The voucher covers the student and one other guest of their choosing.

Students can pick up their vouchers from the receptionist desk in the main building, near the South entrance.
