Splendora’s Gelato Cafe, located on the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville, VA, held a fundraiser for Charlottesville’s only roller derby team, the Derby Dames, on Oct. 30, 2016. The Filipino Popup was held in an attempt to help the team raise money for their upcoming championship.

“Well when the dames got into the D2 regional championships, they got an automatic bid to the big championships. but it’s in Portland so I decided to throw an event to raise at least the cost of one ticket,” wrote PK Ross, the owner of Splendora’s and a big supporter of the Derby Dames.

On the menu at the Filipino Popup was Lumpia, Pancit, Adobo with rice or a roll, and Lechon Kawali. Each was made in the kitchen at Splendora’s by Ross, the Splendora’s crew, and some of the Derby Dames themselves.

“We raised more money for the dames than our initial goal. It was pretty busy with the pop up and concert traffic,” wrote Kelly Farmer, the general manager of Splendora’s.
