PVCC Does the Time Warp

Arts & Entertainment Campus News Events Opinion Reviews

Students of PVCC and members of the Piedmont community got a chance to go back to a time when things were simpler, stranger, and a lot more sensual with the Arts Department’s performance of The Rocky Horror Picture Show that captivated the Main Stage from December 3-5th. Directed by Brad Stoller as he created his adaptation of the famous and timeless classic film originally directed by Richard O’Brien. The show was not for the faint of heart or those who wish to disappear in a crowd.

From the moment the opening music began and the first words were sung the crowd became part of the show. This classic tactic–often done by other performances of The Rocky Horror Picture Show–was not forgotten by those that put in the long hours and dedication to create this event. The fourth wall normally respected by theatre was shattered the moment the actors and the crowd met, The sensual and lively encouragement for the crowd to get up and dance to the classic songs like “Time Warp” and “Sweet Transvestite.” The actors captured the roles of their characters extremely well as they brought you through the story.

The cast and crew had worked on the performance since September of 2015, and it was clear throughout the night that not a moment of time was wasted. The hard work and love for the tale shined brighter than the corsets and the attention to detail was as perfect as the fishnets. Everything came together on the stage and fell into place.

Overall the experience was worth remembering and an amazing way to kick off the daunting time of finals. The auditorium was packed and many people had bought their tickets in advance. The performance was highly anticipated by many, and the cast and crew did not disappoint when they took the stage in heels and rocked the show from the opening curtain to the final bow.
