Misty Mountain Camp Resort Provides Fun for All

Arts & Entertainment Events Opinion

Misty Mountain Camp Resort offers fun and activities for everyone. Haunted Camp had spooky and fun activities planned every weekend for the month of October. Activities included pumpkin carving, apple bobbing, costume and campsite decorating contests, hayrides, ice cream socials and an evening of Trick or Treating from site to site. Campfire karaoke lasted until the early hours of the next morning. The resort was festively decorated and full of families, couples, and groups of friends celebrating Halloween. Free beer on tap was available Saturday night in the community center and free donuts and coffee are available every Sunday morning, but be sure to get there early enough to grab some before they are gone.

Though Misty Mountain Camp Resort may not be suited for those seeking a rugged outdoor experience, it is a perfect place to get away with friends, family, or  by oneself to escape the doldrums of everyday life. Check into a site as early as 1 p.m., or consider spending two nights to have plenty of time to decorate and enjoy all of the festivities.

All of the Halloween activities are included in the rental fee. The events are staggered throughout the day, beginning with the campsite decoration, contest judging and pumpkin carving in the early afternoon, followed by apple bobbing and a costume contest in the early evening. Trick or treating began at 7 p.m. with the children going from site to site gathering goodies from anyone who had a lantern lit. A bonfire began at 8 p.m. followed by karaoke in the community center brought all together to end the evening in a rising chorus of voices singing all the old favorite karaoke songs.

The campground itself boasts a wide range of accommodations, including cabins, wooded tent sites, and full-sized RV hookups with water and electricity. At the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, just fifteen minutes from Charlottesville, the Misty Mountain Camp Resort is open year round with camping available from early March until November. A river winds its way through the center of the resort, running by a stocked pond. A pool, playground, dog park, arcade, and giant bounce pad offer entertainment for campers. More adventurous guests can sign up for kayaking, horseback riding, caving, or drop-off hiking trips for an additional charge.
